
| Mr. Vatousios is the choral director and music
technology teacher at Holten-Richmond Middle School. He was born in
Kalloni, of the Greek island of Lesvos. His father, Stelios Vatousios,
was a school principal and a cantor in the Greek church. He started playing accordion and trumpet at the age of eight. He learned the traditional songs of his island and songs from Asia Minor from the famous Aegean violinist, the late Panagiotis Ganosis. In 1985 he immigrated to the US and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, majoring in Jazz Composition. In 2000 he earned a Masters degree in Music Education from the University of Rhode Island. Since 1985 he has performed with various Greek ensembles including the former band Avgerinos, and as a freelance musician. He was a member of the Northeast Navy Band, stationed in Newport, RI from 1993 to 1999 performing with rock, jazz and classical ensembles where he served as a keyboardist, arranger, vocalist, and band leader. In 1998 he was chosen as a pianist for the "United States Navy Band" in Washington D.C. In 2006, Mr. Vatousios completed his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) from Salem State College, in Salem, MA. In addition to his public school teaching Mr. Vatousios is the Youth Choir Director at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody, MA. Mr. Vatousios also has a number of private music students. He lives in the North Shore area of Massachusetts with his wife and three children. |
